Poem: A look at Growing Older

A look at Growing Older

Where has the time gone?

Seems like only yesterday

Young was here and carefree.

Playing outside in the leaves,

Singing the songs on the radio.

Playing in the snow.

Time goes by so fast.

Significant moments never last.

They are left in the past

To become memories.

Childhood seems so long ago.

Many loved ones are gone.

The faces are not the same.

Some people belong

And the other I long for to return.

But they have been called home.

Childhood memories race through my head.

Fears of the days when I will be dead.

Will I have a bed to rest my head on my last days?

The price I paid for this life seems wrong.

Childhood longings of a place to belong.

A place to sing the soul song.

How childhood longed for this place.

A place so lonely without the old faces.

Many are now few and there is nothing we can do.

Did all have a happy life?

Or were they sad and blue?

Who knew of the pain that fell upon them!

Only those they told, if they were bold.

It sucks growing old.
