Poem: Wake Up Call

I woke up this morning
I looked around at my life
All I wanted to do is cry.

How did I end up in this place?
I was a strong young woman.
I knew what I wanted
And, I went after it.

Why didn’t things work out
As I had planned.

I have no one else
To blame but me
For the place I am in.

I am still strong.
I realized nothing went wrong.
I had lessons to learn
Before, I could make
All of my dreams come true.

I had to learn to believe in me.
I had to learn not everything
Works out the way you want it to.
You have to make your place
In this world.
No one is going to do it for you.

You have to be strong.
You have to make your place
And sometimes that means taking your place.
You can be true to yourself
And be a nice and good person
But, still be strong.

You have to work hard
And do it for yourself.
Believe in all you are
Make your place in this world
Stand tall show the side of yourself
That the world is meant to see.

It is never too late
To take your place
In a World of men!!
