Flash Fiction# : The Chest

Here is a Flash fiction story based on non-fiction.  The prompt was to write 99 words using the word chest.  It’s a story about what I discovered about my grandmother while I was helping my father clean her house after her death.  I was only sixteen years old when my grandmother passed away.  I wish, I know what had become of this box of treasure me and my father found.  But, sadly, I do not know and fear they were just thrown away.

The Chest

After her death, her son and granddaughter went to clean out her house.  Amongst the many treasures they found a chest full of a life she hid from the world.  A life not even her son knew about.  The chest was full of articles, diaries and manuscripts of books that went unpublished.  Dairies, articles and manuscripts full of her memories of a past she never talked about.  The chest was a gateway into a grandmother’s life.  Finally, giving her granddaughter the connection to her, she dreamed of when her grandmother was alive.  They shared the same passion, writing.
