Somewhere in the mountains of England, a young girl is walking in a deep forest. She has been wandering so much she assumes she must be in the middle of the woods. She pauses at a stream and goes over to get a drink. While bending over to drink, something hits her on the head. She falls to the ground with a thud.
She wakes up some time later. Holding her head in her hands, she asked herself, what happened?
A voice said, “I am not sure. I found you on the ground by the stream. You were out cold. I brought you here, so you would be safe.”
The girl looked around. No one was there. She must be dreaming, she thought.
You are not dreaming; the voice said. “I am right here. You are leaning against my trunk.”
I know, I am dreaming now. Talking trees!
“You are not dreaming. Yes, trees can talk, if people want to hear them. Sorry; I brought you here! ”
The girl said, “I am sorry. I did not mean to offend you. Where I come from trees don’t talk. You surprised me, that’s all. Please, don’t take me back. At least not, yet!”
“I cannot take you back. Nor can you go back. You have talked to me and now know about the trees. You will never see things the same again. ”
