Reading Through the Soul Book Review: Bloodstone: The Curse of Time By MJ Mallon

Bloodstone: The Curse of Time by MJ Mallon is a captivating and unique young adult novel that blends contemporary fiction with elements of fantasy and mystery, resulting in an engaging and imaginative reading experience.

The story follows the life of fifteen-year-old Amelina Scott, who finds herself swept into a world full of secrets and ancient prophecies after the disappearance of her father. As she delves deeper into the mysteries surrounding her family, Amelina discovers her own hidden powers and begins to unravel the secrets of the bloodstone. In a race against time, she must navigate her way through a web of riddles and challenges, while also facing personal dilemmas and forging unexpected alliances.

One of the book’s strengths lies in its well-developed characters. Amelina is a relatable protagonist: smart, brave, and imperfect. Her vulnerabilities and determination make her journey all the more compelling. Supporting characters, such as her quirky best friend Jade and the enigmatic Ryder, add depth and complexity to the narrative.

Mallon’s writing style is fluid and descriptive, effortlessly drawing the reader into Amelina’s world. The author’s attention to detail and vivid descriptions make the setting come alive, whether it’s the mysterious Crystal Cottage or the ethereal dreamscapes Amelina explores. These atmospheric descriptions enhance the sense of magic and mystery that permeates the story.

The pacing of the novel is well-balanced, keeping readers engaged and curious about what will happen next. Mallon expertly weaves multiple plot lines together, creating a sense of anticipation and excitement. The incorporation of poetry and prophecies adds an extra layer of intrigue, making the story even more intriguing and mysterious.

Furthermore, the underlying themes of family, friendship, and self-discovery add depth to the narrative. Amelina’s journey is not just about solving a mystery, but also about finding her place in the world and understanding her own identity. The themes are seamlessly woven into the story, giving it a relatable and heartfelt quality.

Though the book ends on a cliffhanger, it serves as a promising introduction to the series. Readers will undoubtedly be eager to continue Amelina’s journey in the next book. I  absolutely loved Bloodstone The Curse of Time by MJ Mallon.  It kept me  captivated throughout the whole book.  I love a good mystery and the magic of this book.   Thankfully, I have the next book  Golden Healer.

  1. Truth – cliffhangers really annoy me unless I have been warned, and I have the next book in the saga at the ready! But boy, you have made this book sound fantastic. And your writing is just as rich and descriptive in your review as you say the author’s is in the book.

    1. Hi Jeanine, thank you for your kind comment. I tend to write intriguing endings bringing ideas forward for the next book. Brenda has written a fantastic review, I am so thrilled. Gives me lots of encouragement to continue writing this series, I think I have a book 3 in me!
