9 Ways to Overcome Self Sabotage

1. Recognize the patterns: Start by identifying the situations or behaviors that contribute to your self-sabotage. Pay attention to when you tend to engage in self-sabotaging behaviors and the reasons behind them. I notice when things started going god with my writing, I often may excuse why I could not write or why I was not good enough to write. Any little thing was good enough to keep me from not writing. Deep down I want to make a living with my writing. So, why was I doing this to myself

I realized that after having so many people tell me throughout my life that writers did not make a good living and I was not a very good writer, that it was programmed into my mind. So, now I needed to overcome this thinking.

2. Set realistic goals: Break your goals down into smaller, achievable steps. Setting realistic and attainable goals can help prevent feelings of overwhelm and reduce the likelihood of self-sabotage. One of the things I did here was to try and post one thing daily.

3. Change the way you think: Self-sabotage often stems from negative and limiting beliefs about ourselves and our abilities. Challenge these thoughts by evaluating their validity and replacing them with more positive and empowering beliefs. It took me a long time to overcome this and I had a lot of support from my fellow writers.

4. Practice self-compassion: Treat yourself with kindness and understanding. Self-sabotage can stem from a fear of failure or self-criticism. By practicing self-compassion, you can create a nurturing environment for personal growth and motivation.

5. Seek support: Reach out to supportive friends, family, or a therapist who can help you navigate through self-sabotage. Sometimes, having an outside perspective can provide insights and strategies to overcome self-sabotaging behaviors.

6. Set boundaries: Establish boundaries with yourself and others to protect your goals and priorities. Learn to say no when necessary and avoid over committing, as it can lead to self-sabotage by overwhelming you.

7. Practice self-care: Prioritize self-care activities like exercise, healthy eating, adequate sleep, and relaxation techniques. Taking care of yourself physically and emotionally can significantly reduce the likelihood of engaging in self-sabotaging behaviors.

8. Celebrate small wins: Acknowledge and celebrate your achievements, no matter how small they may seem. By recognizing your progress, you can build confidence and motivation, which can help combat self-sabotage.

9. Build a support network: Surround yourself with positive and supportive individuals who encourage your growth and help hold you accountable. Share your struggles and triumphs with them to receive guidance, feedback, and encouragement.

Remember, healing, self-sabotage is a journey that takes time and effort. Approach it with patience and perseverance, and use mediation as a powerful tool for self-reflection and growth.
