Spiritual Questions: What are the Emerald Tablets?

As a spiritual life coach, I’ve come across various thought-provoking questions that uncover the hidden layers of human existence and seek to explore the realms beyond our physical existence. These spiritual inquiries have the potential to spark profound personal transformations, guiding individuals towards a deeper connection with themselves, others, and the universe. In this article, I set out to delve into the realm of spiritual questions, opening the door for contemplation and self-discovery. Answering the spiritual question what are the Emerald Tablets?

The Emerald Tablets are a series of ancient mystical texts that are said to contain information on various esoteric and spiritual topics. They are attributed to the mythical figure Thoth, an ancient Egyptian god associated with wisdom and knowledge.

Thoth is one of the most important deities in the ancient Egyptian pantheon. He is generally depicted as a man with the head of an ibis bird or sometimes as a full ibis. Thoth is known as the god of wisdom, writing, magic, and the moon. He played a central role in Egyptian mythology and was highly revered by both gods and humans.

Thoth is often associated with knowledge and learning. He was considered the inventor of hieroglyphic writing and was known as the scribe of the gods. Thoth was believed to have taught writing, mathematics, science, and medicine to humanity, making him the patron of these disciplines.

In addition to his role as a scribe, Thoth was also considered a judge and arbiter. He was believed to record the deeds of the deceased during their journey through the afterlife, acting as the recorder and measurer of truth. His association with writing and judgment led to his inclusion in the Egyptian final judgment scene, where he weighs the heart of the deceased against the feather of Ma’at, the goddess of truth and justice.

Thoth was also associated with magic and is often depicted holding a wand or an ankh, the Egyptian symbol of life. He was believed to have great knowledge of spells and incantations, using his magic for both good and evil purposes. Thoth was said to have helped the gods in their battles against chaos and darkness using his magical abilities.

Thoth was highly revered in ancient Egyptian culture for his wisdom, knowledge, and magical powers. He represented the importance of intellect and learning in Egyptian society and played a significant role in the mythological and religious beliefs of the ancient Egyptians. Thoth is believed to have written the Emerald Tablets.

The tablets are believed to have been created in Atlantis or ancient Egypt and are said to have been hidden away in a secret location to preserve their sacred knowledge. The contents of the Emerald Tablets include teachings on spiritual alchemy, the nature of reality, the interconnectedness of all things, and the secrets of the universe. They have been highly regarded by various esoteric and occult traditions, including Hermeticism and the New Age movement.

The Emerald Tablets were first mentioned in modern times by the explorer and occultist, Alexander von Humboldt, in the 19th century. However, the most well-known text on the tablets, called “The Emerald Tablet of Hermes Trismegistus,” was translated into Latin during the Middle Ages, and it has since become a cornerstone of Hermetic philosophy.

I hope this article gave you a better understanding of what the Emerald Tablets and Thoth.  Thank-you for reading. Many blessings to all.
