Letting Go and Trusting in Divine Will
In a world where control is often regarded as essential above all else, people might find the concept of surrender counterintuitive. Yet surrendering, letting go, and trusting in a higher power or divine will can bring profound peace and clarity to our lives. This philosophy, deeply rooted in various spiritual traditions, offers a pathway to release anxiety, find inner peace, and navigate life’s challenges with grace. In this article, we delve into the essence of surrender, exploring its significance, benefits, and practical applications in our daily lives.
Understanding Surrender
Surrender is not about giving up or relinquishing responsibility. Instead, it’s a conscious choice to release attachment to outcomes and trust in a higher intelligence or universal flow. It involves accepting things as they are, rather than resisting or fighting against them. Surrender requires humility, openness, and a willingness let go of the ego’s need for control.
This was one of the most difficult things for me to do. It’s difficult for me to let go. After years of healing, childhood abandonment issues and a lack of love and trust. I am learning how to surrender and let go of attachment. I am still a work in progress.
The Benefits of Surrender
Embracing the philosophy of surrender yields numerous benefits for our mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being. By relinquishing the illusion of control, we alleviate stress and anxiety, allowing us to experience greater peace of mind. Surrender opens the door to serenity, acceptance, and inner freedom. It cultivates the ability to remain steady amidst life’s obstacles, fostering resilience.
This occurred to me during a period of great turmoil. It was one of great personal despair. My son 24 was refusing treatment for his mental illness and doing things he was not even aware of. I had to trust the divine that all would be well if I put him in a home. Things had gotten so bad he was making threats on my life. This was nothing like my son. He is now getting the treatment he needs.
Trusting in Divine Will
At the heart of surrender lies the belief in a higher power or divine intelligence that guides the universe. Trusting in divine will means having faith that everything happens for a reason and that there is a larger purpose behind every experience. It requires surrendering our limited perspective and aligning ourselves with the wisdom of the cosmos. Trusting in divine will doesn’t mean passive acceptance of circumstances, but rather an active participation in co-creating our reality in harmony with the universe.
For me, this happened after almost two years of a living nightmare. Where I wasn’t sleeping because I had to watch my son 24 hours a day. I had no one to help me. I tried everything I could think of, but nothing worked. Putting my son in a home was the last thing I ever thought I would do. But it came down to either do that or die, trying to take care of him. I surrendered to what was. I had to let trust the Universe knew what was right for both of us. I am happy to say he is doing well and looking for work.

Practical Applications of Surrender
Incorporating surrender into our daily lives requires practice and mindfulness. Here are some practical ways to cultivate the philosophy of surrender:
1. Mindfulness Meditation: Engage in regular mindfulness meditation to cultivate an awareness of the present moment and observe the thoughts and emotions that arise without judgment.
2. Letting Go of Attachments: Identify and release attachments to specific outcomes, people, or possessions. Practice detachment and non-attachment to cultivate inner peace.
3. Prayer and Affirmations: Connect with your higher power through prayer, affirmations, or spiritual practices that resonate with you. Surrender your worries and concerns, trusting that you are supported by a greater intelligence.
4. Flowing with the Rhythms of Life: Embrace the ebb and flow of life’s circumstances, recognizing that change is inevitable. Instead of resisting change, adapt and flow with the currents of existence.
5. Gratitude Practice: Cultivate an attitude of gratitude for the blessings in your life, trusting that more good will unfold in due time.
The philosophy of surrender invites us to relinquish the illusion of control and trust in the wisdom of divine will. By surrendering, letting go, and aligning ourselves with the flow of life, we can experience profound peace, joy, and fulfillment. Embrace surrender as a guiding principle in your journey toward inner peace and spiritual awakening, knowing that you are supported by the infinite intelligence of the universe.
