After reading a dear friend’s entry for the 13 Days of Samhain (Volume V) Halloween Writing Prompt Challenge. I decided to join in.  Horror isn’t really my thing. But, I though this would be a lot of Fun and I found the prompts very inspiring.

Thank-you   for the wonderful writing prompts  and Rockstar Girl for letting me know and the prompts and challenge.

13 Days of Samhain (volume v) – A Horror / Halloween Writing Prompt Challenge Day #2 As Silent as the Grave

Whispers from the Grave

In the heart of the forest, a weathered stone grave lay hidden beneath a thick blanket of ivy. Villagers whispered about it, warning children not to stray too close, for it was said that the ground never stirred, as silent as the grave itself.

One fateful evening, a curious boy named Leo ventured too far from home. Drawn by the tales, he stumbled upon the grave. The air was still, thick with the scent of damp earth and moss. He felt an odd pull, as if the grave were breathing him in.

As he leaned closer, the ivy rustled. He froze, heart pounding. The ground beneath him began to shift, slowly at first, then violently. With a low groan, the earth split open, revealing a gaping maw of darkness.

“Help me,” a voice whispered, soft and sweet. It wrapped around him like a vine. Leo squinted into the void, but the darkness was too thick to see anything inside.

The voice called again, more insistently, dripping with a sorrowful hunger. “Please… I’ve waited so long.”

Before he could turn to run, the ground erupted, and skeletal hands shot up, grasping at his ankles. Leo screamed, but the sound was swallowed by the forest’s stillness.

As silence fell again, the villagers returned to their homes, oblivious to the boy lost in the grave’s hungry embrace. The forest remained as quiet as ever, holding its secrets close, forever more.

Thank-you for reading.

Much love and Light,

Brenda Marie
