The Sound of the Universe

In the stillness of dawn, when the first light kissed the mountaintop, the monk sat in meditation, his breath synchronizing with the rhythm of the earth. Each inhale drew him deeper into the silence, until the world faded, leaving only the pulse of existence.

Then, like a soft whisper curling through the void, he heard it: Om. The sound flowed into him, rich and ancient, reverberating across the cosmos. It was a resonance, a vibration that transcended time, and it beckoned him, inviting him to follow.

As he surrendered to the sound, he slipped into a mystical trance. The world around him dissolved, replaced by a tapestry of stars woven in vibrant hues. In this vast expanse, Om coalesced into a shimmering figure, a being of pure light and sound.

“Welcome, seeker,” the being intoned, its voice a melody that echoed through the universe. “I am the essence of vibration, the thread that connects all things. Every creation, every thought, every heartbeat is woven from my frequency.”

The monk bowed, awe filling his heart. “But what is the origin of this sound? How does it bind us?”

“Before existence, there was only the void,” the being explained, a cascade of harmonies swirling around them. “From this emptiness arose a vibration—a singular note that split into many, like a drop of water creating ripples in a pond. This is the sacred sound of creation.”

He listened intently as Om continued, weaving stories of galaxies forming, of stars igniting, of life emerging from the dust. “All beings carry my vibration,” it said. “In joy and sorrow, in love and despair, you find me. To know the sound is to know yourself.”

As the monk absorbed this wisdom, he felt the heartbeat of the universe resonate within him. His thoughts began to dissolve into pure vibration, the distinctions between self and other fading into harmony.

“Remember,” Om whispered, a gentle tide of sound wrapping around him. “You are both the seeker and the sought. In every moment of stillness, listen for me, and you will find the divine nature of existence.”

With a final surge of light, the being expanded, filling the cosmos, and the monk felt himself drawn back to the mountain. The dawn had fully arrived, painting the sky in soft pastels.

Opening his eyes, he realized the world was still, yet vibrant with an unseen energy. He smiled, understanding that the sound of Om resonated not just in the cosmos, but in the very core of his being. Every breath was now a reminder, an echo of the divine, a call to listen. And so he sat, enveloped in the sound of the universe, his heart forever attuned to the sacred vibrations that wove the fabric of existence.

  1. The sound that is heard is the sound that we are making ourselves. We have as a human being our lungs to breathe, heart to beat our blood, a brain to control ourselves et al. We say we are dependent upon these organs for survival but if you step back and look at the bigger picture, we are beholden to the trees that we live alongside. In winter you see a tree with no leaves and it looks like a structure of our lungs but upside down, taking carbon dioxide and producing oxygen in the reverse order and way that we do it. The ocean is a hostile place where we have ventured out into and discovered other lands but it holds more secrets than we know about. We know more about the moon than our seas. For something that dominates 60% roughly of our planet, it has to have an influence on our lives.
