Poem: What Happened to Common Sense?

What happened to common sense, I wonder,
Once a steady flame, now lost in thunder.
It used to guide us, clear and true,
Through paths we walked and choices we knew.

But now it’s scattered, like leaves in the breeze,
A whispering memory, a forgotten tease.
We’ve swapped it for trends, opinions so loud,
Beneath the weight of a fickle crowd.

It wasn’t about rules or rigid control,
But about seeing clearly, heart and soul.
A balance of reason, and care for the ground,
A quiet knowing where wisdom is found.

So where did it go, this old guiding star?
Has it vanished too far, or left a scar?
Perhaps it’s still there, tucked deep in the chest,
Waiting for moments to rise from the rest.

We need it now, more than ever before,
To see the truth, to open the door.
So let’s call it back, reclaim what’s been lost,
Common sense, no matter the cost.

Thank-you for reading.

Much Love and light,

Brenda Marie
