As the Pain Sets In, My Day Begins
The morning breaks not with the sun,
But with the ache that slowly comes—
A whisper first, then louder still,
It bends my breath, it breaks my will.
No rooster’s crow, no gentle light,
Just grinding bone and clenched-up fight,
The weight behind my every limb
Declares the world already grim.
I rise not out of eager need,
But dragged by some internal creed—
To move, to live, to simply try,
Though each step comes with the reason why.
The coffee brews, its bitter steam
Can’t wash away the silent scream.
I dress in armor made of skin
And march into the war within.
Yet still—I go. I always do.
The world won’t pause, and pain breaks through.
But I have learned to walk with it,
A shadow in the morning lit.
So let the ache announce the dawn—
I’ll meet it tired, but not withdrawn.
Each day begins as battles end:
With pain, and hope, my oldest friends.
Thank-you for reading.
Much Love and Light,
Brenda Marie

Hi Brenda, this is a heartbreaking poem.
You know poetry, if it doesn’t tug at your emotions, it’s not poetry! Thanks for stopping by and reading Robbie.
You are right, but its hard to know the sufferer. It easier if the poem was written decades ago.
I fully understand that.
Interesting!
