Poem: Ego

I am the whisper in the victor’s grin,
The flame that burns beneath the skin.
I wear the crown in every room,
A silent sun, a secret bloom.

I walk where others fear to tread,
With hollow praise to keep me fed.
A mirror’s gaze, my sweetest wine—
No truth exists unless it’s mine.

I build my walls from words and pride,
And lock the world out from inside.
Applause, my prayer; control, my creed—
I bloom in want, I wilt in need.

But crack my mask, and light may fall
To show the self beneath it all—
Not strength, but fear in velvet thread,
A king who starves while crowned in dread.

Yet still I rise, again, again,
Half hero’s spark, half phantom’s chain.
To know me is to seek release—
To slay me is to taste your peace.

Thank-you for reading.

Much Love and light,

Brenda Marie
