Poem: Longing for the Ocean

I dream in tides, in salt and spray,
Where restless waves have words to say.
The sea, it sings beneath my skin—
A voice I knew, a touch I’ve been.

The air is dry where I reside,
No seabirds cry, no shifting tide.
But in my bones, a current swells,
And all my thoughts wear ocean shells.

I miss the foam that kissed my feet,
The wind that smelled of brine and wheat.
The sun that danced on endless blue,
A sky that mirrored every hue.

I ache for cliffs where gulls take flight,
For moon-pulled swells that glow at night.
For driftwood logs and tangled nets,
And secrets shorelines don’t forget.

Bring me the hush of twilight shores,
The lighthouse pulse, the distant oars.
Let me dissolve like grains of sand—
No maps, no clocks, just sea and land.

Until I stand where breakers call,
I’ll carry salt within my soul.
A longing deep, a vow unspoken—
To one day be once more… ocean.

Thank-you for reading.

Much Love and light,

Brenda Marie
