Poem: Break Free

I walked the path they paved with care,
Each step a whisper: Don’t you dare.
The sky was trimmed to fit their mold,
My dreams were small, my hands were cold.

They told me safety wore a chain,
That comfort lived in quiet pain.
But in my chest, a wild beat stirred,
A rebel pulse—too loud to herd.

I cracked the shell, I tore the seam,
I spilled the light of buried dreams.
The silence screamed, You can’t, you won’t,
But I became the voice they don’t.

I climbed the wall they said was sky,
Unlearned the rule that says don’t try.
With blistered feet and blistered truth,
I danced upon the roof of youth.

Now winds of risk are in my hair,
No map, no net—but I’m aware:
The price of wings is letting go
Of every cage you used to know.

So here I am, not safe, but me—
A soul unshackled, breaking free.

Thank-you for reading.

Much love and Light,

Brenda Marie Fluharty

  1. Beautiful poem Brenda 🌷🤝 This poem beautifully captures the journey of breaking free from societal constraints and embracing one’s true self. The imagery of cracking shells, climbing walls, and dancing on rooftops symbolizes liberation, while the recurring theme of defiance against imposed limits inspires courage. A powerful ode to self-discovery and fearless authenticity.
