You needed me—
not in the shouting way
of storms that split the sky,
but quiet, like a whisper
that forgets how to cry.
You needed me
when the silence grew
too wide between your words,
when all your boldest dreams
fluttered off like startled birds.
You needed me,
though you’d never say
what cracked behind your smile.
You wore your strength like armor—
but only for a while.
You needed me
like roots need rain,
like night leans into dawn—
and even though I stumbled,
I stayed until you’d gone.
You needed me.
I know it now—
not then, when I was blind.
But love leaves echoes
in the places it can’t find.
Thank-you for reading.
Much love and Light,
Brenda Marie Fluharty

This is a beautifully tender and melancholic poem Brenda ! It’s about quiet, unspoken love and the subtle ways we support each other without realizing it. The imagery—whispers, roots needing rain, love leaving echoes—conveys deep emotional resonance. It speaks to the bittersweet recognition of being needed too late, yet still having been there when it mattered. A touching reflection on presence, absence, and the quiet strength of love.
