Poem: I Need to Be Close to You

I need to be close to you—
like the tide to the moon,
drawn by something ancient,
a pull that knows no reason.

Not just near in the way
that shadows follow feet,
but near in the way
that silence wraps a heartbeat.

I need to hear your breath
in the hush between my thoughts,
to touch the edge of your soul
like dawn touches rooftops.

Let the space between us
be no more than a sigh,
no wider than the distance
between a tear and the eye.

I don’t want tomorrow
without your nearness near—
your warmth in my winter,
your voice in my ear.

So come—no need for words,
just let presence be the truth.
I don’t want to exist beside you—
I need to be close to you.

Thank-you for reading.

Much love and Light,

Brenda Marie Fluharty
