The voices started again at dusk.

Whispers echoed through the tall trees as Mira brushed the debris from the ancient stone floor. She had been searching for this place for years — following rumors, forgotten maps, and dreams that didn’t feel like her own. Time, it seemed, had twisted around this place, coiling in on itself like the roots of the old trees that shielded it from the world.

Before her stood the doors — tall, cracked, and carved with symbols lost to all but the oldest books. As she reached out, the prophecy returned to her mind, spoken by a seer long ago:

“When the last mirror stands before you, and the past no longer hides, only truth may travel through the doors that no lie survives.”

Mira took a deep breath. She had the present — a silver shard, passed down in her family, said to come from the original mirror broken at the end of the first age. Now, in this moment, she would see if her story was the one that would lead to the truth.

She pressed the shard into the hollow at the center of the doors. A hum filled the air, low and ancient. The voices faded, and the doors creaked open.

Inside, it was not a room but a rift in reality — a tunnel of memory, where past and future blurred. Mira stepped in. Time bent around her. She saw herself as a child, hearing the story for the first time. She saw her ancestors fleeing, the mirror shattering, the world forgetting.

At the end of the tunnel stood the last mirror, whole again.

She approached it, and her reflection stared back — not as she was, but as she could become. A traveler. A leader. A keeper of forgotten truths.

Mira reached out, and the mirror pulsed with light. The doors behind her closed.
