Poem: One Day at a Time

I don’t carry the whole road now—
just the step in front of me.
The rest can wait
beyond the bend,
where tomorrow hides
its face
and fear.

One day at a time—
that’s the promise I keep.
A morning made of breath,
a night that waits
to hold me
without asking
who I’ll be next week.

I stir my coffee,
watch the light slant
across the wall,
and that’s enough.
Enough to stay.
Enough to try.
Enough to begin again.

The past knocks
but I don’t always answer.
The future calls
but I let it ring.
Today is a small,
imperfect offering,
and I take it
with open hands.

Some days,
I stumble.
Some days,
I soar.
But every day
I show up—
and that is more
than I could before.

Not forever.
Not all at once.
But here.
Still here.
One breath,
one step,
one day
at a time.

Thank-you for reading.

Remember there are many paths back to God.

Follow your own path,

Brenda Marie
