Poem: Every Emotion

Every Emotion

I woke to dawn with silver breath,
A hush before the world took shape—
The quiet ache of something left,
A memory that would not break.

Hope came first in golden thread,
It wrapped around my ribs and sang,
A tremble in the things unsaid,
The wish that morning always brings.

Then joy—wild fire in open fields,
Bare feet, bare soul, the sky unchained.
Laughter spilled from wounds not healed,
But in the light, they barely pained.

Love followed close with trembling hands,
Not gentle—fierce, a flood, a flame.
It built a home from shifting sand,
Then left it, whispering my name.

I sank into the ache of loss,
Its silence heavier than stone.
It drew me to the edge, then tossed
Me deep into myself—alone.

Anger struck like sudden storms,
A thunder kept beneath my skin.
It shattered all my careful forms,
To show the mess I held within.

Fear crept in with quiet eyes,
A shadow waiting by the door.
It dressed in every known disguise,
And told me I was something more.

But even sorrow has an end—
It teaches hearts how wide they bend.
Each tear a note in some great song
Where all I feel, at last, belongs.

So I will feel and feel again—
Each rise and fall, each joy and pain.
For what is life if not the art
Of holding fire inside the heart?

Thank-you for reading.

  1. This is a stunning and powerfully cathartic piece. It masterfully charts the full spectrum of human emotion, not as separate states, but as a flowing, inevitable journey.

The poem’s strength lies in its raw, honest personification—Hope “wrapping around ribs,” Love as a “fierce flood,” Anger that “shatters careful forms.” It acknowledges the pain and messiness of feeling deeply, but ultimately arrives at a profound and brave conclusion: that the “art” of life is precisely this capacity to hold every emotion, even the painful ones.

The final stanza is a triumphant declaration of resilience, transforming the entire emotional journey into a single, beautiful, and necessary act of living. A truly remarkable piece.
