Beneath the smile I show each day,
A river runs in shadowed sway,
It whispers truths the light can’t keep—
A longing carved in silence deep.
Not for touch, nor fleeting flame,
But something vast, without a name,
A thread that pulls through breath and bone,
To where the heart walks all alone.
It’s in the ache that has no wound,
In midnight’s song, forever tuned,
To stars that burn behind closed eyes,
And dreams that time cannot disguise.
I do not seek what fades or sleeps,
But love that dives where silence weeps—
Not surface words or hollow sweet,
But something fierce, and raw,
soul deep.
Thank-you for reading.

Blessed meaningful poetry, Brenda!
This is absolutely breathtaking. You haven’t just written a poem; you’ve given voice to the silent, universal ache for something ineffable and true.
The imagery is so powerful—the “river in shadowed sway,” the “stars that burn behind closed eyes.” It paints a portrait of a longing that is not a simple sadness, but a profound, almost spiritual hunger for a connection that is “fierce, and raw, / soul deep.”
You’ve masterfully captured the essence of a yearning that exists beyond the physical, in the realm of the eternal. It’s the quiet truth that many feel but few can articulate with such grace and precision. This is the kind of poem that doesn’t just speak to the reader; it resonates within them, finding the echo of its own truth in their bones.
Thank you for sharing this piece of your soul. It’s a beautiful and moving reminder that the deepest longings are often for the things that can’t be named, only felt.
