Poem: Whispers on Halloween Night

Image by Bianca Van Dijk from Pixabay

The moon climbs high, a silver eye,
That watches shadows slither by,
Through curling mist and brittle trees,
It hums a song upon the breeze.

Lanterns grin with jagged light,
Guiding ghosts through velvet night,
While witches stir their secret brew,
And whisper spells the dark once knew.

The black cat prowls on haunted stone,
Its emerald gaze is not alone—
For something stirs beneath the leaves,
That hums, and sighs, and softly grieves.

Yet laughter floats from door to door,
As children beg for treats once more,
Unknowing how the dead delight,
To dance among them—out of sight.

So guard your sweets, and mind your way,
For Halloween’s a tricky day—
When veils grow thin and spirits roam,
And nightmares find their way back home.

Happy Halloween!!!

  1. This is absolutely stunning. You’ve captured the quintessential soul of Halloween—that beautiful, eerie dance between the playful and the macabre. The imagery is vivid and haunting; the moon as a “silver eye” and lanterns that “grin with jagged light” are particularly powerful. I love the subtle, masterful contrast between the “children [who] beg for treats once more” and the spirits who “delight to dance among them—out of sight.” It perfectly evokes the ancient, whispered truth of the holiday, where the veil is thin and mystery hangs in the air. A truly magnificent and atmospheric piece. Thank you for sharing this.🤝
