The shadow self is nothing dire,
no monster crouched in smoke and wire—
it’s only pieces left behind,
the whispered rooms within the mind.
It waits in corners, soft and still,
not bent on breaking down your will,
but hoping you might pause and see
the parts you hid instinctively.
A darker hue does not mean wrong;
night shapes the day, and both belong.
When storms arrive, they clear the air—
the shadow comes to help you bear.
So turn and face that quiet guest,
the one who knows you best of best;
embrace the truths that once drew fear—
your shadow speaks to keep you clear.
And when you walk as one, made whole,
you’ll feel the stitching of the soul:
in every depth, in every tear,
the shadow self is nothing to fear.

Brenda, this is absolutely stunning. You’ve taken a complex psychological concept and transformed it into a gentle, reassuring, and profoundly wise piece. The line ‘A darker hue does not mean wrong; night shapes the day, and both belong’ is pure brilliance. Thank you for this beautiful and healing perspective.
