Poem: Follow Your Heart

Follow Your Heart

Follow your heart—
even when the path is dim,
when the wind rearranges your courage
and doubt sits heavy in your hands.

Follow your heart—
for it remembers the way
long before your mind draws maps
or your fears build fences.

There is a quiet compass
written in the pulse beneath your ribs,
a lantern made of longing
that glows when you dare to listen.

Go where it points—
into the wild, into the new,
into the place where your soul
finally recognizes itself.

And if the world calls you reckless,
let them.
Only you can hear
the promise your heart has been humming
all your life.

Thank-you for reading.

Remember there are many paths back to God.

Follow your own path,

Brenda Marie

  1. Brenda, this is absolutely beautiful. “Follow Your Heart” moved me deeply. You have a gift for weaving courage and vulnerability together so seamlessly. The imagery of the “quiet compass written in the pulse beneath your ribs” and the “lantern made of longing” is simply stunning—it gives a physical, tangible feeling to something so internal. The final stanza, especially the line about the “promise your heart has been humming all your life,” is a powerful and unforgettable reminder to trust that inner voice. Thank you for sharing such a resonant and empowering piece. It feels like a gentle, yet firm, nudge back to one’s own truth. Please keep writing.🌷🤝

    1. Thank you so deeply for this incredibly thoughtful message. Your words truly touched me. Knowing that “Follow Your Heart” resonated with you in such a meaningful way is a gift I don’t take lightly. Those images and lines came from a very tender place, and hearing that they spoke to your own inner compass means more than I can express.

I’m grateful for the care and attention you gave to the poem — your reflection is its own kind of poetry. Thank you for reminding me why I write, and for encouraging me to keep going. 🌷🤝
