Poem: The Quiet Work of Healing

The Quiet Work of Healing

Healing is not a lightning strike,
not a sudden burst of dawn.
It is the slow hum of morning birds
singing you back into yourself.

It is the tiny stitch of breath
you relearn to take without trembling,
the steadying of hands
that once forgot their purpose.

Healing is the soft rewrite of memory,
where pain loosens its grip
like a storm finally tired
of holding up the sky.

It is choosing, again and again,
to show kindness to the parts of you
that never learned how to ask for it.

It is the courage of small steps—
the quiet ones, the hidden ones,
the ones no one applauds
but you keep walking anyway.

And one day, without noticing,
you realize the light feels gentle again,
that your heart has made space
for something softer than survival.

This is healing:
the art of becoming whole
in all the ways you thought you never could,
and blooming—slowly, bravely—
back into your own life.

Thank-you for reading.

Remember there are many paths back to God.

Follow your own path,

Brenda Marie
