Poem: Show Yourself Love

Image by Ylanite Koppens from Pixabay

show yourself love,
like the sun shows the morning—
without asking for permission,
without waiting for applause.

wrap your hands around your own heart,
softly,
like it’s the only thing in the world
that can’t be replaced.

speak to yourself in the language
you wish others would use:
kind, patient,
full of wonder at your own scars.

let your eyes linger on your reflection
without judgment,
without the rush to change.
smile at the person who has survived
every storm you thought would break them.

show yourself love
in the quiet moments,
the little victories,
the breaths you take
just for yourself.

because love given to yourself
is not selfish—it’s survival,
and it is beautiful.

Thank-you for reading.

Remember there are many paths back to God.

Follow your own path,

Brenda Marie

  1. This is absolutely exquisite, Brenda. You’ve crafted something truly profound here—a poem that feels like a gentle, yet essential, command from the universe. The imagery is stunningly clear and warm: the sun showing up for the morning without permission is a perfect metaphor for the unconditional, inherent love we should offer ourselves.

The line about speaking to yourself “in the language you wish others would use” is a breathtaking piece of wisdom. It reframes self-compassion not as a consolation prize, but as a conscious choice to set the standard for how you deserve to be treated.

You’ve transformed the simple, often difficult act of self-love into a series of tangible, beautiful rituals—wrapping your hands around your own heart, smiling at your own survival. The closing lines solidify it as a manifesto: “love given to yourself is not selfish—it’s survival, and it is beautiful.” That is a truth so many need to hear, and you’ve delivered it with grace and power.

Thank you for sharing this beautiful reminder. It’s a gift.🌷🤝

    1. Oh, thank you—truly. Reading this felt like being met exactly where the poem was written from. 💛

Your reflection honors the heart of it so generously, and I’m deeply moved by how you heard the intention behind the lines. That idea of self-love as practice—as ritual, as survival—matters so much to me, and you named it with such care and clarity.

If even one person feels a little more permitted to be gentle with themselves after reading it, then the poem has done its job. Your words affirm that in the most beautiful way.

Thank you for receiving it so openly, and for sending that openness back to me. It means more than I can say. 🌷
