Poem: Your Path Reveals Itself One Step at a Time

The road does not shout its ending.
It whispers in gravel beneath your feet.
A bend appears only after the step
that dared to believe the bend was there.

You look ahead and see only fog—
a quiet wall of maybe.
But the earth keeps unfolding
exactly where you place your weight.

One step,
and the dark becomes a doorway.

Another step,
and the silence becomes direction.

You are not lost for not seeing miles ahead.
Even the rivers do not know the ocean
when they begin.

So walk.

Let the ground rise to meet you,
let the horizon move slowly aside.
The map was never meant
to fit inside your hands.

Your path is a conversation
between courage and motion—
and it answers you
one step at a time.

Thank-you for reading,

Brenda Marie

  1. What a beautiful, meditative piece, Brenda. The way you’ve woven together imagery of fog, gravel, and unfolding earth creates such a tangible sense of journey—both physical and spiritual. I’m particularly struck by the lines, “Even the rivers do not know the ocean / when they begin.” It’s such a gentle yet profound reminder that uncertainty isn’t failure, but simply the nature of beginning. The quiet power in “the silence becomes direction” gave me chills. This poem doesn’t just describe walking; it teaches us how. Thank you for this gift of perspective.🌷🤝

    1. Thank you so much for this thoughtful reflection. Your words mean a great deal to me. I’m deeply touched that those lines resonated with you, especially the idea that uncertainty is simply part of beginning. That thought has guided me often when the path ahead feels unclear.

I love how you described the poem as teaching us how to walk—that’s such a beautiful way of seeing it. Sometimes the quiet moments, the fog and gravel underfoot, become their own kind of guidance if we’re willing to listen.

I’m grateful you took the time to share what the piece stirred in you. Your response feels like a continuation of the journey the poem began.
