Poem: Don’t Lock Your Ego Away

Don’t Lock Your Ego Away

Don’t lock your ego away
in some dark cellar of shame,
as though every spark of self
were a fire to be tamed.

Your ego is not the enemy.
It is the voice that learned your name,
the hand that reached into the world
and whispered, I came.

But left alone, it builds high walls,
counting victories like gold;
while the soul walks barefoot through the stars,
seeking truths too vast to hold.

So do not bury one for the other.
Do not crown one king above.
Merge the hunger of the ego
with the soul’s unmeasured love.

Let ambition learn compassion.
Let confidence kneel before awe.
Let the self become a window,
not a prison made of law.

Then you’ll move through life whole—
neither vanished nor confined;
a heart with roots in earth below,
and a spirit unbound in mind.

Don’t lock your ego away.
Teach it the language of the soul.
For when they walk together,
they become a single, living whole.

Thank-you for reading.
