Releasing Grief
Grief is not a prison.
It is a river.
It arrives without asking,
carrying the names,
the memories,
the dreams that never had a chance to bloom.
It fills the heart until breathing feels like learning
to live all over again.
For a time,
I believed I had to hold every tear,
every ache,
every fragment of yesterday,
as though letting go would mean
I had forgotten love.
But love was never meant
to be measured by suffering.
The soul whispered this truth
long before my mind could hear it.
“You are not abandoning what you have lost.
You are releasing what no longer needs to be carried.”
So I opened my hands.
One memory became a feather.
One regret became a falling leaf.
One unanswered question
rose like morning mist
until it disappeared into the light.
I discovered that grief
does not leave in a single moment.
It loosens,
like autumn surrendering its final leaf.
It softens,
like winter giving way to spring.
It transforms,
until what once felt unbearable
becomes a quiet companion
walking beside wisdom.
There are still days
when sadness visits.
I no longer close the door.
I invite it to sit beside me,
to tell its story,
to remind me
that every tear was born
from having loved deeply.
Then, gently,
I thank it.
I bless it.
I let it continue on its journey.
For grief was never my enemy.
It was love
searching for a new way to exist.
And love—
real love—
cannot die.
It changes form.
It becomes courage
when fear says to give up.
It becomes compassion
when another soul is breaking.
It becomes faith
when the path ahead disappears.
It becomes light
shining through the cracks
where sorrow once lived.
Today,
I choose not to carry
what Heaven has already received.
I release the weight
without releasing the love.
I release the pain
without releasing the memories.
I release the tears
without releasing my heart.
What was broken
becomes blessed.
What was empty
becomes sacred space.
What was lost
becomes eternal within my soul.
So I breathe.
I open.
I forgive.
I surrender.
And with every breath,
I return another piece of my sorrow
to the Infinite Love
that has carried me all along.
The river continues to flow.
The seasons continue to change.
The heart continues to heal.
And somewhere beyond the veil of grief,
I hear my soul singing once more—
not because the pain never existed,
but because love
has finally taught me
how to let it become
peace.
Thank-you forreading.
