What is Reiki?
Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is administered by “laying on hands” and is based on the idea that an unseen “life force energy” flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. If one’s “life force energy” is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy.
The word Reiki is made of two Japanese words – Rei which means “God’s Wisdom or the Higher Power” and Ki which is “life force energy”. So Reiki is actually “spiritually guided life force energy.”
A treatment feels like a wonderful glowing radiance that flows through and around you. Reiki treats the whole person including body, emotions, mind, and spirit, creating many beneficial effects that include relaxation and feelings of peace, security and wellbeing. Many have reported miraculous results.
Energy a Fundamental Concept in Reiki
Energy is a fundamental concept in Reiki, a holistic healing practice originating from Japan. In Reiki, energy refers to the vital life force that flows through all living beings and contributes to their overall well-being. This energy is known as “ki” in Japanese or “chi” in Chinese.
Reiki practitioners believe that illness and emotional disturbances are caused by imbalances or blocks in the flow of this energy within the body. These imbalances can be due to various factors such as stress, trauma, negative emotions, or unhealthy lifestyle choices. By channeling and manipulating this universal life force energy, Reiki practitioners aim to restore balance, promote healing, and enhance a person’s overall well-being.

Importance of Energy in Reiki
Energy is a fundamental concept in Reiki, a Japanese healing technique that focuses on channeling and balancing life force energy. Energy, in a metaphysical sense, refers to the universal life force or vital energy that is believed to flow through all living things.
In Reiki, it is believed that when the flow of energy within a person’s body is blocked or disrupted, it can lead to physical, mental, or emotional imbalances or illnesses. Therefore, the primary goal of Reiki therapy is to restore the balance and harmony of this energy within the recipient’s body.
The importance of energy in Reiki lies in its role in promoting well-being and healing. By working with the energy centers (chakras) and energy pathways (meridians) in the body, a Reiki practitioner aims to clear any blockages or imbalances in order to promote the free flow of energy throughout the body. This, in turn, helps to activate the body’s natural healing abilities and supports the recipient’s physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being.
Energy is not only important in Reiki healing sessions but also in self-care practices. Individuals can learn and practice Reiki techniques to help release stagnant or negative energy from their own bodies, increase their energy levels, and enhance their overall health and vitality.
In Reiki, energy is believed to be intelligent and guided by a higher consciousness or spiritual force. Practitioners act as conduits or channels for this energy, allowing it to flow through their hands and into the recipient’s body. They use various hand positions and techniques to direct the energy to the areas in need of healing or balancing.
The energy in Reiki is not limited to the physical body, but encompasses the entire being, including the emotional, mental, and spiritual aspects. It is viewed as a holistic approach to healing that addresses the underlying causes of illness or imbalance.
The importance of energy in Reiki can be understood in the context of its effects on the recipient. It is believed that the energy received during a Reiki session can help reduce stress, promote relaxation, alleviate pain, accelerate the body’s natural healing processes, and enhance overall well-being. It is also said to help release emotional blockages, promote mental clarity and focus, and support spiritual growth and connection.
The understanding and manipulation of energy in Reiki require training and attunement from a Reiki master or teacher. Through practice and experience, practitioners learn to sense and work with the subtle energies in themselves and others, allowing them to facilitate healing and balance.
Overall, energy plays a central role in Reiki as it is the foundation of the practice. It is seen as the key to restoring harmony and promoting optimal health in the physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual aspects of an individual. By working with and directing this energy, Reiki practitioners aim to promote healing, balance, and overall well-being in the recipient.

Reiki is a simple, natural and safe method of spiritual healing and self-improvement that everyone can use. It has been effective in helping virtually every known illness and malady and always creates a beneficial effect. It also works in conjunction with all other medical or therapeutic techniques to relieve side effects and promote recovery.
An amazingly simple technique to learn, Reiki is not taught in the usual sense, but is transferred to the student during a Reiki class. This ability is passed on during an “attunement” given by a Reiki master and allows the student to tap into an unlimited supply of “life force energy” to improve one’s health and enhance the quality of life.
The practice of Reiki can be used on oneself as well as on others. It involves placing hands on the body or holding them slightly above the body in a series of hand positions to channel the Reiki energy. The practitioner acts as a conduit for the energy to flow from the higher power to the recipient.
Reiki is not affiliated with any religion or religious practice. It is a holistic healing technique that can be used by anyone, regardless of their beliefs. It is simply a gentle and non-intrusive method of healing and relaxation.
The benefits of Reiki are numerous. It can help to reduce stress, promote relaxation, alleviate pain, accelerate the body’s natural healing process, and promote emotional and mental well-being. It can also enhance overall health and vitality by balancing the energy in the body.
