Poem: Lost in the Darkness of Addiction

Lost in the Darkness of Addiction

I wander deep, where shadows fall,
A prisoner to a silent call.
The light is faint, the path unclear,
I chase the void, I feed the fear.

Each step I take, I lose my way,
The chains of need, they pull and sway.
A fleeting high, a bitter sweet,
Then darkness wraps me in its seat.

The whispers haunt, the demons grin,
They tell me lies, they pull me in.
A moment’s peace, a fleeting calm,
Then back I fall, again the storm.

The world outside begins to blur,
As I reach for the empty cure.
I try to grasp, I try to fight,
But something keeps me lost in night.

The faces fade, the voices drown,
I sink deeper, pulling down.
I search for hope, but find none near,
Just endless pain and hollow fear.

But still I rise, though weak and torn,
For deep inside, I am reborn.
A spark remains, a flicker small,
That dares to rise above it all.

Though lost, I know there’s still a way,
A distant light, a brand new day.
And even in the darkest place,
I’ll fight to find my saving grace.

Thank-you for reading.

Much Love and Light,

Brenda Marie
