I move in light, but drag a twin,
A whisper born from deep within.
Not seen in smiles, nor found in grace—
It lurks behind my polished face.
It wears my guilt, it speaks my name,
Yet burns with none of virtue’s flame.
It knows the thoughts I never speak,
The hunger dark, the fury weak.
At night it stretches, takes its throne,
When I’m most human, most alone.
It mirrors all I try to hide—
The wounds, the lies I’ve pushed aside.
But still it walks where I have been,
My truest ghost beneath the skin.
And though I fear its breath, its eyes,
It guards the truth I idolize.
To know myself, I must descend
And meet the thing I called pretend.
For light means nothing, never will—
Until I’ve kissed the dark and still.
