Guided Meditation for Freedom

Duration: ~25 minutes
Theme: Inner Liberation, Spaciousness, Letting Go

1. Settling Into the Space (2-3 minutes)

Begin by finding a quiet, comfortable space where you won’t be disturbed.
Sit or lie down in a relaxed position.
Let your hands rest gently. Close your eyes.

Take a long, slow, deep breath in…
Hold it softly at the top…
And exhale gently through the mouth.

Again, inhale deeply…
And as you exhale, imagine releasing the weight of the day.
Let go of whatever you’ve been holding.

Let your breath fall into its natural rhythm—steady, quiet, calm.

With every breath, allow your body to soften.
Let your shoulders drop.
Let your jaw unclench.
Let your eyes rest.

This is your sacred time.
Time to return to yourself.
Time to remember your inner freedom.

2. Grounding in the Present Moment (3-4 minutes)

Now, bring your awareness to the base of your spine.
Imagine a soft, warm energy anchoring you to the earth.
Visualize roots growing down from your body, deep into the ground—steady, ancient, and wise.

These roots connect you to stability, to the present moment, to the here and now.

You are supported.
You are safe.
You are grounded.

Feel the weight of your body.
Feel the earth beneath you holding you—asking for nothing in return.

Let go of time.
Let go of obligations.
Let go of the outside world.

You are here.
This moment is enough.
You are enough.

3. Releasing the Inner Cages (4-5 minutes)

Now gently bring to mind the concept of freedom.

Ask yourself softly:

“What am I ready to be free from?”

Maybe it’s fear.
Maybe it’s the need to be perfect.
Maybe it’s guilt, resentment, or old beliefs that no longer serve you.
Maybe it’s the voice that says you can’t… or shouldn’t.

You don’t need to solve it.
Just become aware.
See it.
Name it.

Now, imagine you are standing in front of a birdcage.
Inside the cage is a beautiful bird—radiant and vibrant.
This bird represents you.
Your soul.
Your true, boundless self.

The cage is made of old beliefs, limitations, conditioning, and fear.
But here’s the truth:
The door is already open.

You are not trapped.
You never were.

Breathe in the truth.
And on your exhale, imagine the bird stepping out of the cage.
Free.
Unbound.
Expansive.

You are stepping into your freedom.
Your lightness.
Your truth.

4. Feeling Into Freedom (4-5 minutes)

Now begin to imagine yourself living in absolute freedom.

What does that feel like in your body?
What does freedom look like for you—not someone else’s idea, but yours?

Are you walking barefoot in the sand?
Are you dancing in your living room with no one watching?
Are you speaking your truth without fear?
Are you waking up every day with clarity and peace?

Let the image be vivid—see yourself free.

Free from judgment.
Free from fear.
Free to be who you are, as you are.

Notice how your body feels in this vision.
Open. Light. Expansive. Whole.

You do not need permission to be free.
Freedom is your birthright.

5. Affirming Your Freedom (3-4 minutes)

Begin to silently or softly repeat the following affirmations:

I am free to be myself.
I release what no longer serves me.
I am not my past.
I am not my fears.
I choose freedom in each breath.
I trust the path unfolding before me.
I expand into my fullest self.

Let each phrase soak into you—not as just words, but as truth.
Let your body feel the vibration of freedom.

With each inhale, breathe in spaciousness.
With each exhale, release resistance.

You are not here to live small.
You are not here to be caged by others’ opinions or your own doubts.

You are here to live wide open.

6. Resting in the Space of Freedom (3-4 minutes)

Now, drop even deeper.

Imagine a vast open sky above you—endless, infinite, free.
You are that sky.
Thoughts may pass through like clouds.
Emotions may come and go like the wind.
But you remain: spacious, eternal, unbound.

In this sky, there are no walls.
No rules.
No judgment.
Only peace.

Rest here.

Rest in the knowing that your spirit is limitless.
That you don’t have to earn freedom—it already lives inside you.

Feel it in your chest…
Feel it in your breath…
Feel it in your bones.

This is your natural state.
This is who you really are.

7. Returning and Integrating (3-4 minutes)

Begin to gently bring your awareness back to your body.

Wiggle your fingers and toes.
Notice the surface beneath you.
Notice the room, the air, the stillness.

Bring one hand to your heart.
Take a deep breath in…
And slowly exhale.

Let this feeling of freedom stay with you.
Not just as an idea, but as a lived truth.

Whenever you feel confined, remember this moment.
This space.
This vast sky within you.

You are free to begin again.
You are free to choose peace.
You are free to live fully, wildly, and unapologetically.

Take one final breath…
Inhale: freedom.
Exhale: release.

And when you’re ready… gently open your eyes.

Thank-you for reading.

Remember there are many paths back to God.

Follow your own path,

Brenda Marie

One thought on “Guided Meditation for Freedom

  1. This is a beautifully crafted guided meditation. It gently leads the practitioner from a state of daily tension to a profound experience of inner spaciousness and liberation. The structure is excellent, moving logically through grounding, awareness, release, and integration.

The use of the birdcage metaphor is particularly powerful and evocative, providing a clear and relatable image for the process of letting go. The affirmations are well-chosen, reinforcing the theme without being overwhelming.

Most importantly, it wisely emphasizes that freedom is not something to be attained, but a truth to be remembered—a natural state that already exists within. This aligns perfectly with the core philosophy of the Upanishads you asked about earlier, pointing the practitioner directly toward the experience of the limitless Atman.

A wonderful practice for anyone feeling constrained by the mind’s habitual patterns.
