Poem: My Angels Have Four Paws and a Tail

My Angels Have Four Paws and a Tail

My angels do not have wings,
they have muddy feet
and fur that smells like sunshine and home.

They follow me from room to room,
guardians of quiet moments,
curling at my feet as if to say,
you are not alone.

Their halos are worn thin—
scratched collars, bent tags,
names spoken a thousand ways
with love baked into every syllable.

They know when my heart is heavy
before I do.
A head on my knee,
a slow tail thumping—
miracles, performed daily.

They forgive instantly,
love without bargaining,
sleep with one eye open
just in case I need saving.

And when the world is loud or cruel,
they ask for nothing more
than my hand in their fur,
a shared breath,
a moment of peace.

Yes, my angels have four paws and a tail,
and heaven, I’m certain,
sounds exactly like them
running toward me.

Thank-you for reading.

Remember there are many paths back to God.

Follow your own path,

Brenda Marie
