Poem: In the Darkness of the Night

In the Darkness of the Night

The car would not start.
Broken down on a darkened road.
All you could hear was the croak of a toad.
No flashlight in the car.
The next town was way too far.
We chose not to walk.
But, to talk.

We heard a noise like no other.
What could it be?
We could not see.

Caught in the darkness
Of the night
The street had no lights.
Would we have to fight
For our lives.

That noise what could it be?

Filled with fear
We could hear
Something come near.
Oh, it was just a deer.

Fear makes your eyes
See things that are not there.
You become impaired.
In the darkness of night.
Everything gives you a fright.
