Guided Meditation: Letting Go of What Is Not Yours

Begin by finding a comfortable position. You may be seated or lying down. Allow your body to settle. Let your hands rest gently in your lap or by your sides. Close your eyes, if that feels safe and comfortable.

Take a deep breath in…
And a long, slow breath out.

Again, breathe in deeply, filling your lungs…
And exhale, letting go of the day so far.
Letting go of everything that came before this moment.

Now, allow your breath to return to a natural rhythm.
Let your body be held by the earth, the floor, or the chair beneath you.
Nothing to do. Nowhere to be. Just this breath, and this moment.

As you breathe, begin to bring your awareness to your body.
Notice any tension or weight you may be holding.
There’s no need to change anything. Just observe.

Now, imagine a gentle light glowing at the center of your chest.
This light is your own inner space—calm, wise, and whole.
This is your boundary, your center.

Begin to ask yourself—gently, without judgment:
“What am I holding that isn’t mine to carry?”
It could be someone else’s emotions…
Someone else’s expectations…
The weight of a story, a role, a responsibility that doesn’t belong to you.

You don’t need to name it exactly. Just sense it. Feel where it lives in your body.

Now, imagine this weight as a shape or a color.
See it resting in your hands, your shoulders, your chest—wherever you’ve carried it.

Take a deep breath in…
And as you exhale, release it.
You might imagine it dissolving into light…
Or floating away like leaves on a stream…
Or been gently taken from your hands by the wind.

Let go.
Let go of what was never yours.
Let go of the need to fix, to prove, to hold for others.
Let go of the guilt.
Let go of the shoulds.
Let go of the stories that do not belong to your soul.

You are not abandoning anyone.
You are simply coming home to yourself.

With each breath, feel the space opening within you.
Lightness.
Stillness.
Freedom.

Now, quietly repeat to yourself:
“I return what is not mine.”
“I keep only what is true for me.”
“I am enough as I am.”

Let those words echo through your heart.

Allow yourself to rest here for a few more breaths.
Feeling lighter.
More grounded.
More you.

And when you’re ready, gently bring awareness back to your body…
Wiggle your fingers and toes…
Stretch if you’d like…
And slowly open your eyes.

Take this calm with you as you return to your day.
Remember: not everything you hold is yours to carry.
And it is okay to let go.

Thank-you for reading.

Much Love and Light,

Brenda Marie
